    Importing from PhishHook?
    Here's how.

    OVERVIEW
There are two ways to add Shows to your TapeTrader Show list. You can add Shows one at a time, or you can import all of your Shows in a specific media (DAT, CDR, etc.) for a particular Artist all at once. You only need to upload your list once. After it's in the database, you can add more Shows, change information, remove Shows, etc. People can access your Show list by going to www.tapetrader.com/username . You can also email your list to anyone right from the site.

Once you have Shows in your list, other Traders can find out what you have when they search for particular Shows or any Show from a particular Artist. Since Traders won't have to click around to a bunch of different people's websites with different lists, the whole thing will work a lot faster. Additionally, once a Trader finds a Show in your list that they are interested in, they can mark it for their wishlist, and then send you an email letting you know that they want to set up a trade.

    NOTE
To keep things simple, you don't see your own Shows when you do a search.

We know that uploading (or entering) lists is a hassle, no matter what we do. But we want to make this as painless as possible. Please let us know what we could do to make it better. We need to hear from a lot of people with lists, in different formats. We know it works with our lists. But how about yours?

Please email service@tapetrader.com with your questions and comments.

GETTING YOUR LIST READY FOR UPLOAD
Create a tab-delimited text file with your shows in it. With most list management programs, or MSWord, or MSExcel, or whatever, you can export your list in a tab-delimited format. Otherwise you'll need to edit it by hand. You need a separate file for each Artist you have Shows for, and a separate file for each Media Type for that Artist. For example, if you have some crispy SBD Madonna DATs and a few Britney Spears Shows - some Cassette and some DATs, you'd need 3 files. Each file contains Shows for a single Artist in a single Media Type. If you only have a couple of Shows for a particular Artist/Media Type, it'll probably be faster to do them by hand.

WHAT TO HAVE IN THE FIELDS
The order of the fields doesn't matter at all. Extra fields also don't matter.

At least a Date and a Venue are required to upload a show. The rest of the fields are optional. Dates can be in the format of MM/DD/YYYY or MM/DD/YY, and you can use "?" instead of any number if you don't know a date. You can use either "." or "/" or "-" between the numbers. Venue can be anything, even a single space or '-', it just has to have something.

In addition to the required Date and Venue fields, you can import data for the following: (DON'T include the ' marks, uppercase/lowercase doesn't matter)

    • Venue - any text, no tabs or returns
    • City - any text, no tabs or returns
    • State - two letter abbreviation
    • Country - any text, no tabs or returns
    • Length - number of disks for CDR or SHN, number of minutes for everything else
    • Generation - '1' '2' '3' '4' are imported, '5' or more is called "5+", any other value becomes "Other"
    • Recording equipment - any text, no tabs or returns
    • Source - 'sbd' 'aud' 'fm' 'fob' 'dfob' 'daud' 'dsbd' - all other values become "Other" and get copied into recording notes.
    • Grade - 'A+' 'A' 'A-' 'B+' 'B' 'B-' 'C' 'X' or 'unknown'
    • Show Notes - any text, no tabs or returns
    • Recording Notes - any text, no tabs or returns

If you import a column, every entry in that column must have a value - fill it with "-" or "space" if it's empty. Columns you don't import can have junk in them, we don't care.

    UPLOADING YOUR LIST
    • Go to the list upload page (My Home Page | My Shows | Upload)
    • Choose your Artist from the pull down menu. If the Artist you are trying to add is not on your Artist list, they won't be in the pull down and you'll need to add them. There's a link right there for your convenience.
    • Choose the Media Type from the pull down menu.
    • Click the "Browse" button, and dig around on your disk until you find the show you're trying to upload.
    • Click the "Import List" button. Your file will be uploaded from your computer to the TapeTrader server, and your data will be put into a temporary file. Before the data can be imported:
    • You'll be taken to the 'Tell Us What Your Data Means' page.
    • Look over the list of sample data taken from your list and tell the database which fields are which. Remember that you'll need at least a Date field. The rest are optional. And, you can't use anything twice. If there is a field on your list which doesn't need to get imported, the choose "Ignore"
    • Assuming you do it right, you'll get taken to the Confirm Show page where you'll see each show exactly as it is about to be imported into the database. You can look over them one at a time, or approve all at once. You'll be able to make change to individual shows if necessary, or cancel the import of one or more shows.
    • Later, you'll always be able to edit the shows in your list, or remove any show.
    • Once you're done approving your shows you can see your whole list as it will appear to other traders by going to you My Shows page, or by going to www.tapetrader.com/username .

    YOUR COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS
We really want to hear from you, and find out what we can do to make this better. We don't think there is any easy way to get a bunch of show data from your brain into the database, but we think that the Show database for all of us is a very valuable resource for traders, and we want it to be as painless as possible. Please email service@tapetrader.com with your questions and comments. Thanks
